. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
I added more to the second bathroom.
(Did you see the first part of this bathroom here?)
I needed to spruce up the walls just a bit.
So I added a cheery yellow flower to the open space.
Right above the towel rack.
With lots of layers and gathers.
Fits in perfectly right where it’s at.
Want to make your own?
For your bathroom or any bare wall in the house?
Start by making your fabric wall hanging base like shown here.
Or just cover an art canvas if you’re short on time.
I made my wall hanging 14 x 14 inches.
Then covered it with the same fabric as my shower curtain here. (It’s just plain ‘ol cotton…..but you could really use anything.)
Next, I cut strips of fabric that were 2 3/4 inches wide and as long as the width of the fabric.
Then I made a basting stitch along one edge, about 1/4 inch away from the edge, to begin gathering the fabric. (Need help with gathering? Click here for more info.)
Then I placed my gathered ruffle in a circle on top of the wall hanging. Position just how you’d like it, taking note of how much of the square wall hanging you want to show from behind it. (And be sure to cover the first end with the circular shape, hiding the raw edge.)
Then place some hot glue right behind the gathered edge, securing the ruffle to the wall hanging.
Fold under and glue the very edge of your ruffle…..
…..and then glue the end down. Then gather your next piece and tuck under the end as well.
Then glue it right over the end of the first piece. But I still only glued at the base, by the gathers.
Then glue the gathered piece around in a circle, making each circle more and more narrow……moving towards the center of the flower.
When you finally reach the center, tuck the end edge under and glue the end of the strip in place.
Then fold the very end over in a diagonal line…..and then set aside for a moment while we make the center piece.
I just wrapped some scraps around my finger…..
…..and ruffled it up a bit.
And glued it to the center of the flower, using plenty of glue underneath.
Then I hung that little beauty up on the wall.
What a nice big flower, in full bloom.
It sure cheers up the place.

I'd love to make that. IT's gorgeous.
I'm following from Trendy Treehouse. :) Hopefully you can stop by and check us out as well.

So cute! Too bad I HATE gathering. It intimidates me!
This is beautiful and so perfect! I am trying to think how I can use this in my bathroom!
That's really pretty, and would be perfect on a pillow! (without the hot glue, of course !!)
What a cute idea!
I love this! I made a pillow in a similar way, but I think yours turned out much better!

This is looks EASY & it makes a BIG statement! I think I will FINALLY try to gather something;)
That is too too cute! I was wondering what kind of fabric you used? I'm not the best with identifying fabrics, but it doesn't look like a regular ol cotton…it looks a little more thicker and sturdier? Thanks!
Lovely! This is EXACTLY what I've been wanting to do in my bathroom! Thanks for the tutorial. :)
Greta, it is just cotton. Once you have the fabric pulled nice an tight, it will lay so nicely and you won't be able to tell that's it's just an inexpensive cotton. Hope that helps!
And JKGross, don't let gathering intimidate you. It really is an imperfect art. And you can totally wing it for this project!
Glad you're all liking this one. It's a nice and quick project!
I LOVE this! Wondering if a no-sewer like me can figure the gathering technique?
OMG that is awesome. I have been trying to find something that will work for my bathroom above the toilet and this would be perfect! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
LOVE this! Totally going to make this. Maybe this weekend!
I love it. Great job! I am moving this weekend into a new place and will totally be stealing many of your ideas… so keep 'em coming! :)
I love it! I need one of those for my home and stat. :) I think I'll be making a trip to the fabric store today. . . :)
That is so cute, and easy, and would look so cute in so many places around the house. Thanks for the tut!
I think I will do that for my guest room, I have the perfect fabric!!
i love this and i am going to try this soon…thanks for the idea!!
beautiful idea i absolutely love it and am doing it asap, GREAT IDEAS:)Tabitha @alywydesigns.blogspot.com
How cute! this would look great i a little girls room as well.
I love how cheery this makes your bathroom! Great job!
*LOVE* it! Now I'm going to have to figure out where I can put one in my house :) (Oh, that and get a working sewing machine!)
That's quite the cute little contemporary piece of artwork you made!
I have a space about two towel hooks in my bathroom that needs something and this is exactly it!!
Very nice. Love the size.
TOTALLY DARLING! love the color combo. Its so cute. I love your blog! I would love for you to come follow my semi new craft blog~ Craftomaniac.blogspot.com, It would make my night. Thanks Jenn
p.s. your new header design is darling.
Oh this is great! I love that idea. Thanks for sharing!
That is amazing! and so little sewing. Love it!! :)
This is absolutely adorable!!! I love it and those colors!
Super cute! I must say this is one of my favorites that you have done….and you have done a lot of good ones! Just curious though — won't the outer edge fray over time? Would you suggest hemming it under or do you think it'll be okay? Sure wanna make this one!
Katie, I don't think it needs hemming. It won't ever move, it won't get washed and I like the light look of the raw edge. But it's up to you. And adding a hem might make the edges look heavy. But you may like the look of it……who knows?? :)
And glad you're all enjoying this one. More to come.
what a great and simple project. Our walls have been crying for attention. Thanks for sharing.

Ashley, simply adorable and what a fun way to bring in some spring, summer, and color! :) I heart this!
I LOVE this idea! I'm definitely bookmarking it so I can make it when I have a house to decorate!
That is adorable…
So i've been sewing these flowers, and learning how flippin hard it is to sew a perfect circle, especially when you start to get closer to the middle,
and i see this post and become sooooo in awe of your perfect sewing, and then see the glue gun! LOL
and think, dang her for being so clever! i've been sitting here trying to sew this crooked mess for over 20mins!!!! :)
That's true about the edges….didn't think that one through. :o) I like the look w/o the hem too.
awesome! will have to try this!
That is so beautiful!
Wow, that looks very great!
