Felt Mr. Potato Head was REMOVED
Unfortunately, I had to remove the Felt Mr. Potato Head tutorial from my blog. I was contacted by HASBRO, Inc. and was asked to remove the tutorial because it violated the copyright name and looked too similar to the original. Oops! I never even considered a copyright issue……..I was just having fun with felt! It was sure a fun project and I wish that I could still share the images and such but I apologized to HASBRO and informed them that I would no longer keep my post up on my blog. Kind of a bummer…….but I do understand and once it was brought to my attention, I didn’t hesitate to remove it. So again, sorry, but the tutorial is gone. I may create some other fun felt toy that is similarly fun, without crossing any lines…..but that will be in the future. (And sorry, this means I can’t send you any images of the long lost potato head. And if you have my images on your site, please remove them. Bummer!)
Ashley

i do have a silly question — what TYPE of felt does one use?? I've never used felt before, but i do see some that are sold by the yard—are those the best kinds? or do i use the craft kind? i don't want it to fall apart….
Genius!
I'm currently creating a post with handmade stocking stuffer ideas. I would love to add this to the list. May I please use a photo of your Mr. Potato Head on the post?
Please let me know at chocolateonmycranium [at] live [dot] com
You seriously come up with the best ideas. I'm always so happy to see new posts rom you show up in my Goggle reader.
I love it. Coincidentally enough, my boys busted out their Mr. Potato heads last night and today for like the second time since we got them over a year ago.
I love the felt idea. So very, very creative! :)
I love this idea. This will be great for my little guy to play with during sacrament. Thanks for the idea!

oh my goodness! SOSOOOOO cute! Such a great idea!
Aaah! I love, love, love this!
The only way this could be any better was if you emailed me templates for the shapes!! (eh?? eh?!) lol. How creative, but I'm afraid my attempt may end up looking like mashed potatoes instead!
This is SUPER cute! I love it…
So cute! I think I'm going to try my hand at one of these for my 2 year old niece, and maybe stick one on the list for my 1 year old nephew for next Christmas!

AWESOME IDEA! Brilliant. Thanks!
Wow, I'm glad you all like it. Such a fun project. And so many other ideas and options and accessories for the potato……so get to it!! :)
Anyway, no, the felt isn't anything special. You can get it on the roll or in the squares. Most likely they are the same thing at your craft store.
And right now, I don't really have time to make any to sell. Maybe after our big move….just contact me in January if you'd like one made for you.
You are a genius. I will be making one of these for my Mr. Potato Head loving soon-to-be 2yo.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE Mr. Potato Head! I have a huge collection! This would make a great addition to my stash! THanks for sharing! ~Robin
Wow – that is too cute. Where do you find the time to make all this fun stuff. Love seeing it all.
It would be a great item to sell – you should get on it.
I LOVE this! How creative! I'm going to try to make one.
That is adorable and the perfect gift for my nephew this year. Thanks so much for the tutorial!!!

I love this! You rock!
I'm in LOVE!! I also agree with the first commenter Jenny – you (and so many other great bloggers out there) keep adding to the list of things I have to make my daughter for Christmas!
We don't have an original Mr. Potato Head – and now I see no reason to get one, she only needs the felt one and I think it's so much cuter anyway! Oh the limitless possibilities of stuff to attach to him!
Thanks so much!
I love this!!!! You are one of the most creative people I know. Oh if only I had a sewing machine. I would love to make one.
Super cool. Thanks!
Seriously, you are a genius!!! Now, I'm going to have to do some! I bet this would make a great Christmas gift!

Genius! The last part is what I loved too! Oh so quiet is what we need in our diaper bag!
Love all your ideas. I've nominated you for a Kreativ Blogger award.
You inspire me.

Mr. Potatoe Head has always been one of my favorites. I will definitely need to make a couple for nieces and nephews.
That is super cute!
so darn cute! i still have my first mr. potato head!
love it! I'll have to try that!
Genius !!! Thanks for sharing !!!
I love this! Would be great for my toddler. Seems like it would avoid the choking hazzard that comes with all those plastic pieces (they couldn't eat the felt, right??).
WOW I love this!!! I have the urge to make one for our vice president who is known to all staff as Mr. Potatohead for his uncanny resemblance of Mr. Potatohead but… I probably won't.
Nieces & nephews might get one each though!!
love it!!! althogh i have one, im gonna make one too!
thanx for sharing!!
I LOVE this!! I am all about finding something quiet that can entertain the kids at church! I am hoping to get to a craft store or two while we are in the city for Thanksgiving! I can wait to try to make one of these!! LOVE YOUR BLOG!

Wow…that is so cute…what a wonderful clever idea…thanks for sharing it with the whole world
Clever idea!
This has inspired me– for us to have a "fabric Christmas" this year. We live in a small apartment, and our 2 boys have plenty of mass-produced toys. I have looked online at toys, and there's just not much I want to buy for them.
I have a month, and after reading through blogs this week, I have 6 projects I want to make for them. We'll see how this goes…. And I'll pray that there are presents under the tree come Christmas! ;)
Thanks!
WOW!! i really really love this idea, totally cool
Kudos to you and your husband! Genious tater idea!
Thank you so much for the great idea. I just made one and added pleats to the pocket. It makes a difference and can hold the pieces really well! Thanks again!
Ok, I couldn't help myself. I was at Joann's BF sale yesterday and bought some tan felt. I'm hoping I can "whip" this up before my 2 yrd old and I fly to FL in January. Perfect "quiet" toy for the ride. Thanks again!
What a great idea!
oh my goodness~ so clever, and perfect for church! and awesome that your hubby gave you the idea. hehe!
THank you~thank~you~thank you. I've been wondering what things I could add to our church bag. I think I will go and make this now!
ok I might actually get my sewing machine out of storage for this one! So adorable!!!
Can I suggest putting the velcro on the pieces instead of the potato? imagine the possibilities of body parts everywhere!
: )
This is sew, sew cute! And, as always, another great tutorial. I even shared this on Twitter. :-)
Oh he is so adorable!
Oh my gosh! I love this idea. My little girl needs one of these for sure. I love all your ideas and things you post on your blog. Thanks for the great things to make. It's keeping me very busy. :)
Oh. My. GOSH!! I am totally making this! What a great idea!! Thank you!
This is beautiful. But, how is something attached with velcro going to be quiet?
Holy cow I wish I was in your brain!! You are so creative, thank you for sharing all of your projects and ideas!!
That has to be the cutest potato head I have ever seen and such a thoughtful gift. I can't wait to check out the rest of your blog.
One of my son's early intervention therapists had one of these and he loved it. Thank you so much.
I love this!
So awesome! Love this!
That could not be cuter. Thanks for sharing the tutorial!
So cool! This looks like more fun to play with than the original.
thank you so much for posting this! my four year old son is autistic and loves the texture of felt and LOVES mr. potato head and always wants to bring it to church, but its just so loud and he loves to bonk his younger brother on the head with it. :) we use that little potato head as apart of his therapy, so this is AWESOME! I just finished cutting out all my pieces and let me tell you. you make it looks so easy! and it is, but my oh my is there alot of time consuming cutting. it took me over an hour of blowing up your pictures to get his body-shape perfect :) ha…after that it was pretty simple…thank you so much again, my boy will be so surprised to get this from santa on christmas morning! LOL…THANK YOU, THANK YOU!…p.s. I ordered your tie pattern and am going to start making them on monday…I have at least 3 more girls that want to buy the tie pattern and bootie pattern…that is my next purchase! :0)
Robinson Bunch – So perfect. I love your little guy's obsession for mr potato head and felt. That made the whole project worth it! :) Hope he loves it!!
Thanks for the great idea! I'm SO excited about how the one I made turned out!!! GO CHARGERS!!!
This is so great! I'm totally going to try it!! I've featured this tutorial in a christmas gifts tutorial roundup on my blog, The Handmade Experiment. Check it out at http://wp.me/pkcUM-oZ
Thanks and happy holidays!
Emily
Ashley, I just posted pictures of mine on my blog, jasonandkristina.blogspot.com if you're interested. Thanks for a great church toy idea for just a little money! You are truly a talented girl. Thanks for sharing your talent with us!
I love this and am trying to make it for my nephew. Would you mind sharing the dimensions of the potatoe head body? Or could you post your template for the body? Thank you so much for sharing your creative ideas. You are truely talented!
Sorry Megan, we are moving across country next week and I have packed that little Potato Head away. After the move and we are settled, I will attempt sketching something up. :)
I just discovered your blog and am loving it! Where do you purchase your felt? I have been wanting to make some felt toys, so am excited to find some great reference….THANKS!
HOLY COW!!!! This is sooooooooo cool. I will be making this for all the babies I know. Awesome idea!!!
I just posted a link on my blog to yours. I LOVE this idea!!!!
I just found your blog, and oh my, I'm in trouble! You are a CREATIVE GENIUS! If only there were more time in the day. I have a list of projects I want to attempt as long as my arm. But first, I shall try Mr. Potato head for my daughter for Christmas. Thank you so so much for this blog!!!!
Hola me ha encantado la idea y la llevare a cabo espero k me visites soy de España cuando lo haga lo publicare en mi blog dejando un enlance en tu blog,FELIZ NAVIDAD GUAPA.
Love it! I made my version for our plane trip coming up and posted it on my blog: http://sunshinemamasite.blogspot.com/2009/12/felt-mr-potato-head-great-plane-toy.html
Love this!!! I made it for my 18 month old niece for Christmas and have plans to make one each for my own kiddos after the holiday craziness dies down. (You know that old saying…the cobbler's children have no shoes!)
Where is everybody purchasing their felt? We have a growing list of felt projects and want to find the best price/quality. Please Advise.
Many Thanks!!!
twoposeys – I got most of my felt from wal-mart. But you can try fabric.com, I know they sell felt and they are always priced pretty well.
If I click on the photo with the paper cut-out and the orange scissors is that the exact size you used for the potato body. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
WAY COOL!
Love this! I suggest to those making it that you put the soft side of the velcro on the pieces. I put the rough side of the velcro on the pieces and they all stuck together in the pocket and made the felt all fuzzy. Just a suggestion. Thanks for the great idea!
I made four of these for Christmas presents, for my daughter, two nieces, and a nephew. What a great idea, thank you!
My mother in law found your blog and shared it with me! I love all of your great ideas! I ended up making a Mr. Potato head for my nephew for Christmas and he loves it! My sister was so excited as they now can sit quietly through church with out his cars or other toys clanking on the seats or wood. Thank you!
Dear,
Amazing tutorial and idea, you are so creative!!!
Congratulations and thanks very much!!!!!
Best regards,
Carine
Cute idea, I love it. Thank you so much for this tutorial, I love all things you made.
I loved this idea so much that I had to make one myself- finally got around to it this week!! Thanks so much for the wonderful idea- Posted mine here- http://www.itsgoodfortheheart.blogspot.com
I added some holiday attachments too
Hello,
First I would like to say that I love your blog!!
Second, about the Mr. Potato Head. You said that you still share the pictures of it, I would love to see it, and I was wondering if you would send it to me or tell me where you have it posted.
Thank you very much.
Sarah
Hello Again,
I am sorry I wasn't paying enough attention. Just ignore my first post.
I reread your post and relized that you said that you WISHED that you could share the pictures.
I am sorry for the trouble.
Sarah
I guess I will just have to determine how to make it myself. What a great idea.
Freakin' Hasbro…. they're just jealous that they used lame-o plastic…
the awesome thing is – i starred this on my google reader, and i can still see it. so excited to make this! :)
grrr! I had saved this in my favorites to come back later and make it!!! But now it's too late. i'm so sad!
Wow, that's just really bad business for Hasbro. Yes, it may be copyright infringement, but you weren't profiting from it, and how many people are going to think "hey, I was going to buy a Potato Head, but now I think I'll spend hours and hours making one"? Hardly any, comparatively. Please! Most people are just going to think "I remember Potato Heads! That's cool, but I'm lazy, so I'm going to buy one!" I guess they don't like free advertising.
Geez, Hasbro, get a life. I was planning on buying a bunch more Potato Heads and accessories for Christmas, but now I think I'll just check flea markets for them.
I have had this on my to do list for this Christmas. I just sat down to get the info and you had to remove it. So sorry you got hassled by Hasbro. Thank you for all of your other great tutorials that you share out of the kindness of your heart!
Sad to hear that, but I was linked from http://funtocraft.blogspot.com/2010/01/couple-of-idaho-russets.html to your blog. I really love these crafts, reminds me of the movie Toy Story.

*sigh* I always thought I was a few years behind. And now I KNOW I am ;D I’m sure it would have been an awesome looking Mr Potato Head!
Just saw this on Pinterest, so like it is said, once it’s on the internet, it’s there forever. Good picture though, should be fairly easy to figure out. Thanks for the original post
