Hello Make It And Love It Readers! It’s Emma from Crafting{E} again! I am so excited to share this project with you today! I was never a huge bath lover, until a few years ago when I discovered the world of bath bombs and Epsom salts.

Now that I’m older (and busier) it seems like taking baths are such a treat! Bath bombs are all the rage right now, and I can completely understand why… they are amazing! However, I (like many of you) have a hard time spending around $7 for a bath.

For a long {LONG} time I’ve been meaning to experiment with homemade bath bombs. For some reason, it took me a long time to just decide to try them! I finally did, and these homemade ones are GREAT!

As I was researching homemade bath bombs, I found that a lot of the recipes called for ingredients that were either hard to find or expensive to purchase. I eventually just decided to design my own bath bomb recipe using only ingredients that I had on hand (or that are easy to find and relatively cheap) and experiment with that.

AND… right here is the finished product. The great thing about this recipe is that you can use it as a base for hundreds of different kinds of bath bombs. You can still use this recipe and get a completely different shape, scent, and color as the result.

The bath bombs pictured are lavender bath bombs. Although you can find plenty of circular bath bomb molds online, I decided to go the cheap route and use a cupcake pan to form my bath bombs (the best part is that it was free!) I also decorated the tops of the bath bombs with (you’ll never guess) sprinkles! I love how it makes the bath bombs seem more “fancy” and less homemade. Well, onto the recipe!

MATERIALS:

  • 1 C. baking soda
  • 1/4 C. cream of tartar
  • 1/2 C. cornstarch
  • 1/2 C. lavender epsom salts (if you are not making lavender bath bombs, you can just use regular epsom salts)
  • 6 drops essential oil (more or less depending on how scented you want it)
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • 1-2 drops food coloring
  • sprinkles (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  • First combine the baking soda, cream of tartar, cornstarch, and epsom salts. Make sure they are combined thoroughly!

  • In a separate bowl combine your essential oil and coconut oil. You may also add in your food coloring at this point. The first time I made these bath bombs I added the food coloring at this step, but the second time I added it in after all the ingredients were combined (that way I could make different colors of bath bombs).

  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients. Make sure you add the wet ingredients slowly and to combine the mixtures thoroughly.

  • Now, if you haven’t already done so, add in your food coloring. If you want your bath bombs different colors you can section the mixture into different containers and add in the food coloring accordingly.

  • Place sprinkles into the bottom of a cupcake pan.

  • Place mixture into the cupcake pan or another mold. Make sure to press the mixture down firmly.

  • Allow the mixture to set for an hour or until firm, then take the bath bombs out of the cupcake pan and put them onto a cookie sheet. Allow them to sit and harden overnight.

Well, that’s it! Thanks for reading guys. Make sure to check out my own blog, Crafting{E}, for more projects like this one!
