.
And you may want to hurry and make one in festive colors/fabrics for your holiday parties this season.
I used an old skirt of mine. (And I used the lining on the inside of my skirt for the waistband/lining of this new skirt.)
Begin by making a waistband/lining by using the tutorial here. But just make the bottom part of the waist band longer than described in the tutorial, so it doubles as a lining too. I made mine long enough to hit my little girl mid-thigh.
Continue to make the main part of the skirt like the tutorial I linked to above…..but add several inches to the length (4-5 inches……but varies with the size skirt you’re making) so that you can fold it under and attach it to the lining, creating the bubble. (This will make more sense in a moment.)
Again, follow the linked tutorial above and create a gather all along the top of your main skirt section and attach it to the waist band.
……….and hem the bottom of the main skirt section. (The waist band section should already be hemmed under.)
Then, gather the bottom of the skirt the same way you gathered the top……..
And then line up the main skirt section with the lining and pin into place.
Now, sew these two layers together, right along the edges.
And you can see the gathers and the hem in the inside.
Now you have the perfect little bubble skirt. And you could adjust the waist band so that it’s all one continuous color and piece. You don’t have to attach the main skirt section a bit down from the waist band like I did. It’s up to you and your preference though.
So fun.
