. . . . .

We got dumped on in Colorado this week.

(I think it was 10 inches total, within 24 hours.)

Yep, lots and lots of snow.

The weather man told us there was a 90% chance of heavy snow fall.  So I hauled all 3 kids around to buy coats, snow bibs, boots, hats and gloves…….the night before the snow fell.  We seemed kind of desperate as we sprawled out in the snow boot aisle at Target, trying to outfit everyone with the right sized boot.  My four year old girl asked me why I wasn’t buying any boots for me.  I told her my feet were too big for the shoes there.

She looked concerned.

Then I apologized for my genes.  And told her to start praying that her feet never pass a women’s size 10.

Because her momma’s size 12 are hard to outfit.

[I should start praying for the baby's feet too. ;)]

We had such great weather last weekend.  That’s when I photographed the kiddos in their Mary Poppins costumes

However, there was no sadness due to this recent snowfall.  The kids had full access to white fluff ALL DAY LONG.

They were in rosy cheek heaven.

This little guy was so concerned about his buried plastic lawn mower.  Don’t worry…..he dug it out.

And she was very worried about grandma’s herbs.  Whew, the basil was rescued.

I did regret buying a size 2T-5T sized glove for this kid.  (What manufacturer makes a kid glove size with that kind of size difference?!?!!)  Those little suckers slipped off about 73 times.  My husband says I exaggerate sometimes……but 73 times is not exaggerating.  Gahhhh.  I wised up when they went out later in the day and wrapped a rubber band around the glove at the wrist.  It saved my sanity.

I felt sad for those little Fall leaves that never had time to fully change and fall to the ground.

But watching these little turkeys play in the snow on and off for at least 4 hours that first day……was pretty enjoyable.  (Ask me how I feel about the snow in February.)

And after about an hour and a half of pure icy fun, I made them come in to warm up those red cheeks.  I know, big mean mom.  They weren’t happy about that.  But after throwing around the words “hot chocolate” a few times……….they finally obliged.

Now, how about you?

Did snowflakes fall from your sky this week?

. . . . .

By the way, make sure and upload your Halloween Costumes

to my flickr group here

There are so many darling ones in there already.

I will do a little Virtual Costume Parade on Monday or Tuesday (and post a bunch of your costumes here on my blog).

I can’t wait to see more!!!!!

Your children are too cute in that snow! Yes, we may see some white stuff tomorrow, thankfully only 1-2 inches though!

Wait, did we know about baby? I don’t think I did. Congrats!

We’ve finally felt Fall. I thought the day would never come. I’m loving it.

Okay, wait, maybe you’re talking about the baby you already have. Don’t want to be starting any rumors here…

I have giant feet too – it is the bane of my existence! This year I actually found cute boots in a size 12 at Payless.

My sister lived in Colorado for 3 years and she said that the weather is kind of schizo. It will be nice and sunny one day and cold and snowy the next. So there is a chance that your snow day won’t last too long. But enjoy it while it’s there. :)

I am SO jealous of your snowfall. I miss the snow, but sadly flurries are a big deal here in Savannah and that is a rare occurrence. Your kids look like they had a blast. Maybe when my hubby is done with art school he’ll find a job in beautiful Colorado and we can see lots of snow. LOL!

How funny……we were in Savannah last winter and we remember that one time we had snow flurries. Your husband must be at SCAD. Good luck with school!

Love seeing your adorable kids playing in Wednesday’s snow — great pictures!!! Looks like you did a great job outfitting them on such short notice. There’s is nothing better than playing in fresh snow and then warming up with some hot cocoa. We are in the Front Range too and got about 12 inches and a lot of tree damage (so sad). It was sure wet and heavy for a first snow. Don’t you just love the beautifully sunny days after the snowfall? This is typical for Colorado’s urban corridor – it snows, but then the sun comes out and it melts in the next couple days. I have my fingers crossed for trick-or-treating without coats :D

    Natalie says:

I grew up in Colorado, and it ALWAYS snowed on or before Halloween. One year we only went trick-or-treating to the neighbors on either side of us because there was a foot of snow on the ground. Not cool. Now I’m in Utah and while the weather’s not really that different, at least the snow has decided to stay in the mountains. For now. Happy Winter!

LOL welcome to Colorado ; it can snow literally any month of the year here!! And it’s supposed to be 70 by Monday! Glad you had fun, we went sledding for the first time with kids yesterday and it was a blast :)

We’ve had rain, rain, and more rain here in Ohio. But temps are still waffling about in the 40 to 60 range.

And I pray for my poor daughter’s feet everytime we go shoe shopping. She’s seven and already wearing a 2. This mommy can’t shop at target either, so I don’t think she has much hope. Lol

    Kandice says:

Ah! I’m SO jealous! I love fall and the crisp air, pretty leaves, etc, etc. But for some reason I spend most of every fall season waiting for the snow to come! And I love it all year long…if it’s falling. When it stops snowing for weeks, everything gets yucky and brown and just plain cold, I lose my enthusiasm. But man do I love snow storms! We’re in Idaho, so we get quite a bit here too. Anyway, enjoy the first snow of the year!

LOL….. We live in San Antonio TX and we are glad FALL has finally decided to grace us it was almost 90 yesterday and today the high is Mid 60′s.

We are lucky to catch a few snow flurries any year :)

I am just hoping and wishing for weather under 80 some time soon. I am in AZ and we JUST barely got below the 90′s! Hopefully we will be in the 70″s by thanksgiving! One can hope right. Love the pictures and all the fun stuff you do!

I am a Southern California girl through and through. I love our 75 degree Christmas days. I love BBQs and swimming on New Years Day. I love that I had never even heard the term “wind chill factor” until I was an adult. I love our moderate temperature changes. But I must say, this post made a tiny part of me want to pack up and move to Colorado!

      Ashley says:

Ha……that’s hilarious! And yeah, that mean old “chill factor” is a beast. How about come for a quick CO snowy visit and then you can see if you like it! :)

You are aboslutely right about hoping your daughters’ feet don’t pass women’s size 10! I have the same problem too, i hate shoe shopping :(

    Janice says:

Oh, I miss Colorado! My husband and I both grew up there and I miss the crazy big snowfall in October then 70 degree weather a couple days later. It makes the snow fun instead of unbearably long lasting! Now we’re in the midwest and I’m already a little depressed that it’s about to turn cold for 5 months! Enjoy Colorado!

We’re finally getting FALL here in UT :) YAY! And you have to check out our Scooby Doo Costumes I just posted on Flickr for you! I’m sure we had the same sense of accomplishment when we finished them :) (Although I have to admit that I decided to buy the 2t scooby costume, didn’t have enough energy for that one this year…)

  24. 24

We had 6 inches in our CO backyard. Thankfully my boys are just a year apart, so passing down the winter clothes works great. BTW – I bought some super cheap mittens at Walmart at the end of last year dor $1. They have a velcro strap around the wrist and are a life saver.

we are still without snow up here in Lloydminster, Alberta, Canada (can’t say the same for the rest of the province but we are still having some nice weather. I’m sure the snow will be here within a week. I better make sure my girls have everything they need! As for the large gloves put them overtop of his jacket, it will help hold them on.

  29. 29
    adrienne w says:

Wow! You got snow before us up here in Alberta, Canada?! We’ve actually had pretty nice fall weather. This morning though was chilly enough for gloves and toques (hats or beanies, to all you Americans). Growing up we often planned our Halloween costumes to fit over winter coats, because snow for Halloween was often a given. It looks like we’ll be snow free this year though. (Fingers crossed!)

As a Canadian transplant in Florida, I’m not seeing much snow these days, but I do have a lot of experience with mittens! They look long (which is good!)…did you try putting them on before putting on his jacket? Usually the coat sleeve cuffs help to keep them on, and its keep snow from getting in between mitt and sleeve.

  31. 31

Wow, so much snow! Our weather has been brisk, but beautiful (in Oregon). Where are your little guy’s hat and jacket from? Orange and gray is one of our family’s favorite color combos :)

    Dara Lynn says:

I have to admit….we were sitting in Oklahoma … a little jealous of your first snow! Our news stations were streaming live from Denver and we got to see every 2-3 hours how the area was getting dumped on….but we did enjoy the much needed rainfall!!!!

  33. 33
    Michelle W says:

Hah! Boston got its first snow of the season, too. It was sleeting when I got home from work last night, and just before I went to bed, I saw white stuff on my car! Not much, but they’re saying we could get some legitimate accumulation this weekend from the storm that gave you this :)

I am also another member of the Women’s Size 12 club! I don’t remember the last pair of shoes I bought in a physical store. It’s better than it used to be, but I get most of my shoes from Amazon or ShoeMall.com.

    Hi!

Here in S. Miguel, in the Azores Islands, we don’t have snow… unfortunatelly! I love snow!
But back in our mainland, in Portugal, there are some places with snow, already.

Your kids look so cute!… :)

Kisses from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean!

Loving the pre-halloween snow and the bright sunshine today in Denver:-) I love being blessed with the pretty white stuff and enjoying it for a day and then it melting in time for my morning commute downtown.

    Jackie says:

No snow yet here – though they are calling for some in the mountains this weekend and the projected snowfall for the winter does not look so good. As for snow in Feb – I’m praying like crazy it waits until after my due date OR the baby waits until its not snowing to come lol. I’m picturing the worst case scenario of my hubby delivering our first child on the side of the road or something!! Seriously hoping that does NOT happen!!

    Jessica says:

trust me I feel your pain but the other way, I can’t fit into any high heels or women’s good running shoes, I have a size 3 and I’m sick of my shoe opptions haven’t princesses and light ups on them, I wish I had the normal size 6 so I could wear grown up shoes!!

  38. 38

We got about the same amount here in southern Wyoming. My daughter and I went out to buy some sleds and gloves right before it all fell so we were also the crazy people running through Target. :)

I miss the snow!! I moved from Nebraska to Florida in January, so I only had a few weeks of winter last year. I’m definitely missing the fall/winter temps here, where it’s still mid 70′s out.

No snow in Houston, but it was in the 50s today. We’ll take it! The snow looks like so much fun. I love to play in it, but am not sure I’d ever want to live in it. There’s too much south Texas in me!

I think we were close to 50 in Ohio today.
The falling off mitten problem used to drive me crazy! Now I love “snowstoppers” – there’s a snug cuff that goes under the coat up to their elbow. They stay on, and there’s no snow sneaking into the sleeve!

Hmm… adorable post. But I am not quite ready for snow yet. I’m in Idaho and we had our first snowfall a few weeks ago. It didn’t stick, but I know it’s coming. I know all about snow in February, and March, and April… It sure does make for a pretty Christmas though.

February? I’ll check in with you to see how you love the snow here in Colorado in April. That’s always my breaking point. And the years it snows here in June…well…kind of makes me want to move to the bahamas. Enjoy it for now! :)

I’m in AZ. We went to the Phoenix airport to see my sister-in-law during her layover today–she was coming from New York, on her way home to Salt Lake. I was so startled to see her in a coat, scarf, and boots (though it was all very cute) as we trooped up to her wearing shorts and flip-flops for the 84-degree weather here! Yeah, AZ is kind of ridiculous…
